Are you trapped in a maze?

Updated: Feb 5, 2022

Do you ever feel like you are trapped in a maze of your thinking and can’t find the way out?

I know that I’ve been there.

The solution eludes you. Happiness eludes you. Deep contentment does not seem achievable except for the occasional fleeting moment. Peace of mind becomes a distant memory.

It all looks so familiar and you know you’ve been around this path before hundreds if not thousands of times and yet here you are again.

It’s frightening and claustrophobic and you don’t know how to get free and see the way to freedom outside the maze.

This way of thinking can damage us physically with symptoms ranging from indigestion, loss of appetite, overeating, headaches, backaches, high blood pressure, sleep disturbance and worse. The mind and the body are completely intertwined.

I am not going to pretend that there is one simple solution to this but what I am going to suggest is that with space and perspective in our heads, things start to look a whole lot different.

I liken it to opening the windows and doors of our minds to allow fresh air through.

With fresh air comes new energy and everything feels fresher and energised afterwards. You have created space and are able to move around and see things differently.

Mindfulness techniques are a great way to do this.

One mindfulness technique which can be helpful in these moments when you are feeling completely trapped is to close your eyes. Breathe slowly through the nose and try to locate in your body where the tension is building. It may be your stomach or your shoulders.

Focus your attention on breathing into the area of your body where you are noticing the physical sensation associated with the thoughts. Try and notice if the feeling changes in any way. Does it change in intensity, move around or feel any different.

This has all sorts of benefits but one obvious one is that it takes your attention off your thoughts and into your body and that in itself opens a window in your mind. It’s important not to allow yourself to get sucked back into “thinking” too quickly or you wont get as much benefit from this.

Another way to get out of the maze is to work with a Transformational Coach who can help you see things you can’t see yourself because you’re too close to it.

Let me help you blow through the maze you have constructed in your mind and help you see with fresh eyes what is truly possible.
