Is your toolbox gathering dust?

I was working with a client recently who for years had been enthusiastically gathering lots of wonderful tools for helping deal with tricky situations. 🔧 🔹 ⚒ 🛠 ⛏



He was regularly journaling, had a gratitude practice and meditated regularly. 🧘


However, he still struggled with worrying excessively about things and he couldn’t seem to break that habit.


When we explored it further, it was clear that he understood what he was doing wasn’t helping things, yet he just couldn’t seem to do things differently.


This was when I asked him what he thought the point of meditation was. 💭

Here was the thing which surprised me.
.


And I realised that clear communication is SO IMPORTANT..


We make assumptions that what we mean by something another person interprets in the same way.


He figured that meditation was to help him feel calmer and when he was meditating it certainly did that. 🧘


However he hadn’t realised that meditation is a TOOL to develop our awareness of our thinking patterns and to be used in everyday life when our thinking is causing us problems.


So now what he has started to do when he notices himself caught in a loop of worrying is to


- Notice

- Stop❗

- Do whatever he can to solve the problem

- And then put his attention elsewhere
