Meditation... the science behind the magic!

I have long been a fan of meditation having seen its benefits in my own life. However, I have found it difficult to explain the benefits to the sceptics in my life!


Recently I came across the works of Dr Joe Dispenza who introduced me to a fascinating piece of scientific information as to how and why we can change ourselves through meditation.


Broadly speaking as we get older our brainwave patterns change. When we are younger and specifically between the ages of between 2 and 5 our brainwaves are operating at a frequency where we absorb everything as fact. We are wide open to receiving and accepting new information without really questioning it. As we get older this gets harder and so by the age of 35 we have solidified our habits, attitudes, beliefs etc which make up our unconscious mind and most things from that point on we can do automatically.


Which is great…. Except when it’s not….


As adults, it is generally accepted that we spend about 5% of our day using our conscious analytical mind and the rest of our day we are in “autopilot” running off pre-conditioned thought patterns and responses which are deeply programmed patterns in our unconscious mind.


So for the most part your unconscious mind is running the show!




This explains why you may say to yourself “I want to get fit, lose weight, not get so angry..” but it is very hard to change. You are saying with the 5% of your conscious mind what you want to do but your unconscious mind is actually in control.


The conscious mind is logical but the unconscious mind is purposeful and it doesn’t like change.


Unless the two are aligned, nothing much is going to change.


So how do you get the unconscious mind to get into line??


This is where meditation and the brainwave patterns come in.


When you meditate your brainwaves slow down so you can get to the state of mind where your mind is wide open to whatever you want to put there.


Meditation is the gateway to the unconscious mind.


So if there is a deeply ingrained unconscious thought you want to change, this is the perfect time and place to do it. Your mind is fertile, wide open and and ready to absorb the new message as true.


The trick is to get the body to really “feel into” how this will be while meditating so you are training the body ahead of time how you want it to feel when you come out of the meditation.


This is the very short version but I can vouch for the fact that it works. It’s like MAGIC!!
