Nudge nudge....

Have you heard about choice architecture and the idea of the nudge?
I hadn’t but wanted to share because we could all benefit from knowing this.
We make decisions all day long.
In face we make way more than we realise because most of them are made without thinking.
When the law was changed to “opt in” to organ donation as opposed to “opt out” the number of organs being donated increased significantly.
Equally in companies where there is an “opt out” of the pension scheme contributions many more people began saving.
Simple changes in wording can make the difference to more people making one choice over another.

So why am I discussing this now?
I want to briefly discuss how we be clever about using this to our advantage when we want to make changes.
Let’s say we want to lose weight and eat more healthily.
Making it as easy as possible when we hit those moments of weakness is key.
- Have carrot sticks in the fridge already chopped
- Have the fruit bowl full
- Get rid of junk food from the house
- Batch cook healthy food and freeze it in portions
You get the point.
Make it easy to nudge our behaviour in the right direction. The easier it is to do the right thing after we have set our intention, the more likely it is that we will change our behaviour at the time it matters.
And these small steps add up over time result in you blasting towards your desired future.
So go ahead and plan your nudges.
Take control and create the life you want with intention.
It is there waiting for you to step into!
