Why New Years Resolutions Don't Work!

New Year - Fresh Start….. Forget about New Year’s Resolutions
The reason New Year’s Resolutions don’t generally work long term is that we start out so enthusiastically but we set the bar so high that it’s too damn hard to keep it up for long
And so, we fall off the wagon and think “What’s the point?”
And we slip back into our old habits
Try this instead
Set a new Intention for the New Year
Such as …”I intend to eat more vegetables”
“I intend to exercise regularly”
In my case… “I intend to serve more clients”
It’s different because it’s small, it’s manageable and it’s less of a mandate.
We don’t like being TOLD what to do. Even if we’re being TOLD BY OURSELVES!!
Our habits generally rule the roost so creating new habits takes time and effort. The smaller and more manageable they are, the better the chance of them taking root and sticking.
This way…. we get our unconscious mind (which drives our habits) aligned with our conscious mind (where we set out “intention”) and we work with ourselves to get to where we want to be.
Sounds strange? How often have we not done what we know we should do or the opposite and we do what we say we don’t want to do?!
That’s because our unconscious mind is running our lives most of the time.
We CAN all do hard things as long as they’re not too big and overwhelming.
Try it and see how you get on!
